The Gulf Coast Association for Pupil Transportation (GCAPT) is a local chapter of the state organization, Texas Association for Pupil Transportation (TAPT) and the national organization, National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT). We exist to promote safe and efficient pupil transportation for Texas public school districts. We encourage the exchange of ideas and cooperation between transportation departments across the State of Texas. Our members from both public and private sectors work to improve pupil transportation policies, standards and equipment on the local, state and national levels.
GCAPT meets on the second Tuesday of each month at a location sponsored by one of our member districts. The meeting usually has one or more vendor sponsors and a presentation is given about transportation or a related topic.
Each year GCAPT also sponsors a Winter Conference and Tradeshow. This is usually held in League City during the month of February and is open to all school transportation professionals. The Conference and Tradeshow provides attendees with an opportunity to take certification classes, listen to speakers, participate in forums, network with a wide variety of school transportation professionals and view the goods and services provided by transportation vendors. The Conference also traditionally hosts golf and bowling tournaments.
The organization also sponsors a Regional Bus Road-eo competition each spring that sends district qualifiers to the state competition. Also sponsored is a student bus safety poster contest as well as a scholarship provided for member children. Scholarship funding comes largely from raffles held at the monthly meetings.
